Edgecumbe club wins BOP Interclub

EDGECUMBE Indoor Bowling Club won the 31st Bay of Plenty Interclub first division and the Ron Ellis Trophy at the Westbrook School Hall in Rotorua on Saturday.

Their team included singles, Paul Gooch; pairs, Maureen Harris and Elaine Howard; fours, Paul Guest, Derek Kendall, Raewyn Clark and Luke Goodall and manager Raewyn Gooch.

Seven clubs entered, Ngongotaha, St Andrews, Ōhope, Edgecumbe, Rotorua RSA 1 and Rotorua RSA 2, and Westbrook and Owhata combined.

Each club is represented by a fours team, a pairs team and a singles player.

Section play consisted of four rounds, with each round consisting of one game each of singles, pairs and fours.  

Three teams, Ōhope, Ngongo-taha and Edgecumbe, qualified for the first division.

In the semi-final, Ngongotaha beat Ōhope.

In the final, Edgecumbe beat Ngongotaha 4-2. This was Edgecumbe’s fourth win, having previously won in 2012, 2014 and 2018.

The remaining clubs all went into the second division and this was won by Rotorua RSA 2.  

Meanwhile, at club night on Thursday, July 18, 11 players competed.

Three teams of three and a team of two played three games of seven ends.

Winners, with three wins and 26 points, were Kay Ritchie, Sue Dakin and Luke Goodall.

Runners-up, with two wins and 16 points, were Allen Annett and Shelley Forster.

The hard luck prize went to Derek Kendall, Raewyn Clark and Alison Huges with 12 points.
