After reading the Steve Chapman’s opinion piece in Wednesday’s Beacon on council transparency regarding the boat harbour, I spent a couple of days going in circles trying to get information from the council and view any documentation to warrant this development.
To no avail, not even a returned phone call.
Finally, I got a call from Phil Wardale, the project manager who would not answer any questions that were very relevant, such as the cost of dredging the river, where all the contaminated soil was to go, how much the berths were going to cost and whether there were any takers for them.
Who would put their name down to buy a berth, not knowing how much and when?
Then, Shane Jones reports in the Beacon when interviewed that, if we don’t want the marina, he would sort it out and put the money to use that would be appreciated elsewhere.
