Investigations are continuing into a crash in which a motorcyclist was seriously injured in Ōpōtiki on Sunday night.
Police were called at about 5:30pm to attend a motorcycle crash on Nelson Street, near Wellington Street. No other vehicles are known to have been involved.
A man was airlifted to Waikato Hospital with critical injuries and police said investigations to determine the cause of the crash are ongoing.
As well as guiding the helicopter to land, the Ōpōtiki Volunteer Fire Brigade assisted at the scene of the crash, deputy chief Barry Hennessy said.
“The brigade has had a busy week with 10 callouts, including two relating to flooding following stormy weather last week. We cut up and removed fallen trees blocking St John Ambulance staff on their way to a call to a medical case in Ruatuna Rd. We also assisted St John with the medical case.”
On June 6 at 8am, during busy morning traffic, the brigade was called to a road crash which temporarily blocked the approach to the Waioweka Bridge. At about 11pm on Friday the brigade was called out after a car hit a power pole in Tirohanga. However, no property damage was reported due to flooding following last week’s rains.
