Birthday fashion show unites businesses

.

Two Whakatāne beauty businesses have celebrated their birthdays with a fashion show collaboration.

Hair Studio and Zirconia Beauty hosted the fashion show last month to mark Hair Studio’s second year in business and Zirconia Beauty’s sixth.

In putting together the event, Corena Barkema, the owner of both businesses, invited Too Pretty, Presentables, Blush Injectables, Manna Cafe, Cake Works and McIntosh Travel and Melissa King Photography to collaborate.

The models were wearing clothing from Too Pretty, accessorised with jewellery and scarves from Presentables.

Zirconia did the models’ makeup and lash extensions while the Hair Studio coloured and styled their hair with the colours, from neon pink to blonde foils, balayages to copper tones, representing 2025’s hair trends.

Blush Injectables provided guests with Aspect masks and vouchers to use for either injectables or other beauty services and Manna Cafe in Edgecumbe made sure everyone was well fed.

Cake Works provided small cupcakes for everyone to take home, and McIntosh Travel presented information on one of its upcoming trips – a weekend across the Tasman for Vivid Sydney 2026.

The event was recorded in all its colour by Melissa King Photography.

Ms Barkema said the night was all about bringing ladies and businesses together – “celebrating local businesses and people and everyone’s unique stamp they imprint on people’s lives”.
