With regard to Okorero-Thornton Lagoon Wildlife Management Reserve (Beacon, October 29), it is a real shame that some people have no respect for our reserves.
It is also a shame that the Department of Conservation can’t do patrols to catch these morons driving through the sand dunes and damaging them.
I would like to see really tough consequences for such vandalism.
For example, vehicles being confiscated and crushed, along with very heavy fines.
Is it possible to block off all vehicle access to the beach with concrete bollards or very large rocks.
Our reserves are precious and should be treasured, not destroyed.
