After the success of the Christmas food parcel delivery last year, the Eastern Bay Community Foundation is again spreading joy to seniors in the region with a generous donation from Craigs Investment Partners as part of their annual Christmas Giving initiative.
Foundation manager Angela Jackson said the funds would be used to provide food parcels to support seniors aged 65+ who may be facing social isolation, health and mobility challenges, or financial difficulties.
“The rising cost of living has left many seniors in the Eastern Bay struggling. Many report eating just once a day or not at all, with food insecurity becoming a significant concern,” she said
In response, the foundation is launching a one-off food parcel drop, which will be distributed to up to 100 seniors in need during the week beginning December 15.
Each food parcel will include essential groceries and an information leaflet detailing local support services available to seniors, including:
Ms Jackson said they were pleased to partner with local organisation Here to Help U.
“By providing these food parcels and connecting seniors with essential services, we hope to reduce isolation and improve the wellbeing of those who need it most during the holiday season.”
The food parcels will be delivered directly to recipients, and seniors who wish to receive a food parcel can easily refer themselves by calling the Here to Help U 0800 helpline.
Engagement manager Mike Howe said the response to the food parcels last year was so positive, they were keen to help seniors in the community again this year.
“We encourage community members, clubs, and organisations to help spread the word about this valuable initiative.
“And thank you to all our community partners for their continued support in making this Christmas Giving initiative a success, particularly the generosity of Craigs Christmas Giving initiative.”
