The Sir Peter Blake Regatta took place at Torbay Sailing Club earlier this month, with more than 350 youth participants, including the Eastern Bay’s Corinne Woolsey.
On December 6 and 7, in extremely light and shifty conditions and racing in a fleet of 35 young sailors, the Awakeri School student, who was representing Ōhope and Tauranga, was awarded the silver medal in the Optimist White Fleet.
Carter Smith from Murrays Bay Sailing Club won gold and Lucas Kattera from Royal Akarana Yacht Club won bronze.
The Sir Peter Blake Regatta is the largest youth sailing event in the Pacific and the highlight of the pre-Christmas summer centreboard racing calendar.
All Sail GP and Team NZ America’s Cup sailors have competed at this regatta in its 23 years. Corrine is hoping to follow in their footsteps.
