Ōpōtiki District Council will be seeking between $60,000 to $140,000 of external funds, and sponsorship to support this year’s Summer Festival.

An estimated 5000 to 8000 people attend the affordable, family-based activities that take place throughout the summer holiday, such as Ōpōtiki Lantern Festival, movie nights, markets and beach digs.

At a council meeting on Tuesday, staff sought a council resolution to support making funding applications to Aotearoa Gaming Trust, The Lion Foundation, Bay Trust, One Foundation and Trust Horizon, for the events.

Ratepayers contribute $40,000 annually towards the festival.

Delivery of the festival can only be confirmed once external funding confirmed.
