Tony and Mitch Rees are travelling a fair few kilometres this week.

The pair are off to Invercargill to be part of the Burt Munro Rally, which began in 2006 and has been running ever since.

It features four days of action, starting with the Bluff Hill Climb that Tony Rees dominated in 2024 and 2025, and there’s no doubt he will be wanting to win his division again in 2026.

Tony had too much power for many of the contestants up the hill, setting some impressive times.

It’s an event the pair enjoy coming to and being part of.

Tony will be wanting to win the trophy for the fastest lap time for the fifth time, as he has previously won it in 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2015, with his time of 43.747, the fastest ever recorded.

Mitch has also won the Hill Climb trophy for fastest competitor, claiming it in 2018.

Following the Bluff Hill Climb, action moves to drag racing Teretonga Raceway, where riders get close to 250kmh.

On Friday, action moves to the beach, where the beach racing is always popular.

Tony and Mitch then take to Teretonga on the Saturday for the first day of the Superbikes, before returning on the Sunday to try take the title.

Last year, Mitch and Tony were first and second on the standings and will be aiming for the same this week.

Tony was also named rider of the year last year for his efforts, taking home the Competitor of the Year Family Trophy.

“It’s always a good few days down there and we enjoy the event. I am not competing in the Superbikes this year, so hopefully I can go well before heading overseas.”
