The site of Whakatāne’s Hospice Shop and a Tirohanga bungalow were sold at auction yesterday morning.

They were among five properties – two residential and three commercial – being auctioned by Bayleys Whakatāne.

The renovated 1930s-character home on a 4924-square-metre section on Tablelands Road, Tirohanga, sold for $840,000 after bidding began at $750,000.

The second residential lot, a two-bedroom apartment at the Ōhope Beach Resort, was quickly passed in.

SOLD: 107-109 The Strand, tenanted by Hospice.

Number 107-109 The Strand, tenanted by hospice, sold for $1,160,000 after bidding opened at $1 million. The 440sqm freehold retail site has a net retail income of $85,135 plus GST a year.

Two other commercial properties, 23 Pohutukawa Avenue at Ōhope and 47-53 The Strand/2 Wairere Street/6 Clifton Road were passed in after bidding stalled.

Bidding on the Ōhope property, home to Moxi Café and 4 Art Sake, began at $700,000 and, bolstered by vendor bids, reached $840,000. This offer was declined and the property was passed in. The vendor has since set an asking price of $1.1 million.

The auction of the 2407sqm freehold Strand/Wairere Street/Clifton Road corner site comprising seven titles, began with a vendor bid of $1 million, which was increased to $1.2 million to give the room an indication of the vendor’s expectations. With no interest, it was passed in.

This site is occupied by Sea Marine and was the former site of The Beacon and Mann Print buildings, which were demolished in 2021.

PASSED IN: The Strand/Wairere Street/Clifton Road.
PASSED IN: 23 Pohutukawa Avenue, Ōhope.
passed in: Ōhope Beach Resort apartment on Harbour Road.
