The Disabilities Resource Centre is inviting mobility scooter users to attend a Mobility Scooter Safety Session earlier next month.
The free drop-in session on Thursday, April 2, will give mobility scooter users the opportunity to enjoy a cuppa and a chat while connecting with local safety organisations and learning tips on how to stay safe and visible when travelling around the community.
It will be held at the Disabilities Resource Centre, 141 King Street, Whakatāne between 11am and 1pm.
The event is being held in collaboration with New Zealand Police, Eastern Bay Road Safety Programme, and Neighbourhood Support New Zealand, who will be available to share practical safety advice and answer questions.
There will also be giveaways on the day.
Naomi Freeman, information services co-ordinator at the Disabilities Resource Centre, said the event was about supporting independence while promoting safety.
“Mobility scooters are a lifeline for many people in our community. This is a chance to come together, share information, and help people feel confident and safe when getting around.”
All mobility scooter users, whānau, and carers are welcome to attend.
