Prior to 2001, some local residents held a reunion of original settles and families of the district of Onepu.

On this day, families were invited to share stories and photos of their early lives to be collated into a booklet.

There were many stories received and Helen Gardner and her team spent hours preparing them for printing into the book, Hot Pools, Tree Stumps and Pioneers – Story of

Onepu. Helen arranged an update five years later including new residents, which was added to the original book.

All of the original copies have long been sold but recently the family was asked for copies as the next generation of the original settlers have become interested in the stories of their forebears.

So, Helen’s family have had another 30 books printed, which are available for purchase at $20 a copy.
