Ōpōtiki Squash Club has retained the Neely Log in a hard-fought contest against the Bay of Plenty’s biggest club.

Earlier this month, Ōpōtiki Squash Club hosted Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre for a much-anticipated Neely Log challenge – a fixture that always brings out great competition and strong club spirit.

With eight players representing each club and 10 matches scheduled throughout the day, spectators were treated to a series of intense, well-matched games showcasing skill, determination, and sportsmanship.

Ōpōtiki once again proved why they are the current holders of the Neely Log, securing a solid 6-4 victory over the visiting Devoy side.

Although the overall result went Ōpōtiki’s way, many of the matches were tightly contested, with some going to five sets and keeping supporters on the edge of their seats.

Players from both clubs demonstrated impressive fitness and consistency, making it a memorable day on and off the court.

Ōpōtiki Squash Club was thrilled with the turnout and the energy in the club, noting the enthusiasm from supporters and the positive camaraderie shared between teams.

Hosting the Neely Log challenge has become a highlight on the club calendar, and the fixture continues to strengthen the friendly rivalry between Bay of Plenty clubs.

With this win, Ōpōtiki successfully defends the Neely Log and now turns its focus to the next challenge. The club will face Whakatāne Squash Club in May, a matchup that is shaping up to be another exciting chapter in the season.

Ōpōtiki Squash Club extends thanks to all players, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to a fantastic day of squash and looks forward to welcoming supporters back for next month’s challenge.
