In last Thursday’s Beacon, Bay of Plenty Regional councillor Mawera Karetai’s opinion piece, The future of insurance, said “IAG New Zealand will not issue new insurance policies for flood prone and landslip threatened homes in the region”.

IAG says this statement is not correct and Ms Karetai may have mixed it up with another insurer.

A spokesperson said IAG had not introduced any blanket exclusions and was not withdrawing insurance for properties in New Zealand.

“We are continuing to provide cover. New insurance applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis, as is usual practice throughout New Zealand.

“Our intention is to continue providing insurance to as many New Zealanders as possible, while also reflecting the risk.”
