Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of a two-vehicle crash at Waiotahe on Tuesday night that injured eight people.
Police were notified of the crash on State Highway 2 near the Surf Club at about 8.30pm and the road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination. It reopened between about 3.30am yesterday.
Hato Hone St John responded with four ambulances, a helicopter, a rapid response vehicle, an operations manager and its Major Incident Support Team.
One person was transported to Waikato Hospital by helicopter in a critical condition and seven people were transported by ambulance to Whakatāne Hospital, one in a serious condition, four in a moderate condition and two in a minor condition.
