Well, it is Tuesday, everything in my quiet cul-de-sac is calm and the birds are once more making their presence felt (where do they go in a cyclone?).
After another reminder of where human folly and greed is leading us in this century, with galloping climate change, we clean up the mess and once more it is a beautiful day in our Whakatāne semi-paradise.
I was so impressed by the number of call-outs the fire brigade had – how many different teams do they operate? Those boys and girls are amazing. It was also good to see the alert system of Civil Defence working well.
Thank you, Victor Luca, for your thorough and comprehensive opinion piece on the botch-up surrounding the promised MRI Scanner (Beacon, April 10). We now all know what an MRI is, it’s difference from its little brother, a CT Scanner, and why it is so necessary for us.
We have also been reminded once more of the further widening of the gap between the almighty Western Bay and the lowly Eastern Bay.
Seven for Tauranga, and a big fat zero for us? How can that be?
Grey Power (in particular Dr Luca) has been working to get “our” scanner installed for two years now; to have it sent to Masterton is a bitter blow.
The ducking of the issue by Minister Costello is perhaps predictable, but the lack of any response by our own MP shows her lack of any real interest in Whakatāne’s affairs – she has lost my vote, if she ever had it.
We will be discussing further actions to be taken at the meeting today.
