Supporting whānau in need

New World duty manager Leon Whare, right, delivers the first round of Family to Family food parcels to Whakaatu Whanaunga Trust staff Tuhoe Kerei and Nicole Smith.

This year, all donations from the campaign will go directly to Whakaatu Whanaunga Trust, making a real difference for Ōpōtiki whānau who need it most.

The campaign runs until May 10 and anyone who wants to get involved can grab a $20 pre-filled bag at the checkout (or add one to their click & collect order), or pick up an empty bag and fill it with your choice of non-perishable items like pasta, rice, or health and beauty products, and return it in store.

You can also donate kai from home, including preserved home-made goods or any shelf stable items, just not fresh, frozen, or chilled items.

New World manager Annie Rolls is grateful to everyone who has supported the campaign so far this year.

“We have been running this drive for as long as we have had the store and it is great seeing the community get involved. The timing has been crucial this year as it helps support the cyclone relief for families affected. It’s been a tough time for many, and even the smallest contribution can go a long way”

All items go towards supporting whānau in need and the initiative is supported by a $250,000 national donation from New World.
