Meet our team

The chamber has appointed Alex Berntsen as executive officer, responsible for strategic direction, advocacy, and business community engagement across the Eastern Bay.

David Turner is the chamber’s growth advisor, supporting businesses with capability development and growth initiatives. Yolandi Du Toit is now communications and digital engagement coordinator, leading digital communications and member promotion.

The chamber is recruiting for an events & relationship coordinator role focused on event delivery and member engagement. They are advertising the role on Seek and recruiting via personnel resources.

A movie experience you won’t forget

A Women in Business Cinema Experience in partnership with Caci Whakatāne will be held on Monday, May 11 at Whakamax, Whakatāne, starting at 5.30pm. The event includes a screening of the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, a glass of bubbles on arrival, a networking hour, Italian pizza, and some popcorn to enjoy during the screening.

Tickets are $60 for members and $75 for non-members (excluding GST). The event is open to all women in business (business owners, team leaders and team members).

Business After 5 with Horizon Networks

A Business After 5 event hosted by Horizon Networks will take place on Thursday, April 30 at Top Shelf, 84 The Strand, Whakatāne, from 5pm. Chief executive Ajay Anand and the leadership team will present on future electricity network planning, infrastructure investment, and impacts on pricing. The session includes a Q&A afterwards.

Big Brothers Big Sisters breakfast

A Business Breakfast in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters will be held on Friday, May 22 at 4 Canning Place, Whakatāne, from 7am.

The event will outline how workplaces can support staff to mentor during work hours, opportunities to sponsor a mentor match for one year, and the broader value of investing in youth to strengthen the local community and future workforce.
