Earthquake flurry

The East Coast has experienced a flurry of mostly weak earthquakes over the past few days.

On Sunday at 9.19am, a moderate 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded 25 kilometres west of Te Araroa at a depth of 32km.

The following day, at 4.47am, there was a 3.8 magnitude quake, 70km north of Te Kaha at a depth of 58km. It was followed on Tuesday by two quakes in quick succession; the first at 8pm, 135km north of Te Kaha at a depth of 5km, measuring magnitude 5.6 magnitude. The second at 8.08pm was 4.2 magnitude, located 110km north-west of Te Kaha at a depth of 4.2km. There was a third quake at 8.28pm of magnitude 2.7, 5km south of Te Araroa.
