The Awakeri Scout Group is excited to announce a year-long campaign aimed at fundraising for the upcoming 24th Jamboree, scheduled to take place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton over New Year 2026-27.
To kick off their fundraising efforts, the group is hosting a lively Quiz Night at Mata on June 6 at 6pm.
Gather your friends, as tables are available for just $120 for six people.
The evening promises to be filled with fun, laughter, and friendly competition, complemented by exciting raffles held between quiz rounds.
Scout leader Wheke (Amy O’Hagan) expressed her gratitude to the community for their support, saying, “The community has donated some awesome prizes, like gift baskets and vouchers.
“We are still hoping for a few more fantastic raffle items since they’ll only be sold on the night, giving you great chances to win.”
The jamboree is a 10-day camping experience that offers valuable opportunities for young people.
“The total cost is $20,000, and we are sending nine kids this year,” said group leader Cupcake (Sally Vazey).
Among the delegates are young Scouts Aurelia O’Hagan and Bella Lee, both students at Apanui Primary.
“I’ve never been away from home for that long,” said Bella, while Aurelia adds, “I’m really excited, but we still need about $8000.”
Joining them are Scouts from rural schools like Thornton, Awakeri, Otakiri, and Trident High School, all inspired by their community’s strong “can-do” spirit.
