Three people were taken into custody after police stopped a vehicle of interest near Te Teko on Wednesday afternoon.

About 2pm, police sighted the vehicle being driven near Fenton Street and River Road in Kawerau.

Police did not pursue the vehicle but kept it under observation until road spikes could be deployed.

The vehicle was spiked and followed until it stopped near Te Teko.

Two youths and a 20-year-old man were arrested. The man and one of the youths have been charged with unlawfully getting into a stolen vehicle.

The second youth is due to face a number of charges in Youth Court, including driving-related offences.
