Fishing seminar: To be held in July at the Whakatāne Sportfishing Club.
.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and all those affected by the recent tragedies on our coast following the loss of a diver and the boating incident at the Whakatāne Bar over the weekend.
These events are a sobering reminder of the risks faced by those who head out on the water, and of the importance of looking out for one another both on and off the sea.
With autumn drawing to a close and the winter fishing season about to begin, all eyes are on the arrival of Southern Bluefin Tuna into our waters.
The New Zealand Sportfishing Council is teaming up with Coastguard and experienced locals to present a winter fishing seminar – Every Catch Deserves a Safe Return.
The seminar will be held at the Whakatāne Sportfishing Club on Friday, July 3, and all are welcome.
Come along to hear from people who know the fishery and understand what it takes to target Southern bluefin tuna in winter.
Alongside safety advice, you’ll hear practical tips to help you get more out of your days on the water.
Keep an eye on Facebook or contact [email protected] for more information.
Our Annual Sponsors Evening was held on Thursday, May 21. Our committee, club members, and anglers offer a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors for your support over the past year and your commitment for the year ahead – we deeply appreciate it.
Work is under way on the buildings to the west of the Whakatāne Sportfishing Club, but access through the eastern carpark entrance remains unchanged and leads straight to our ramp on the wharf side.
We’re open right through to the end of August, and Skippers Restaurant is open, too, offering a warm, welcoming spot to enjoy a meal or a hot drink while watching the river drift by.
Club nights are Wednesdays and Fridays, with happy hour from 5pm to 6.30pm. The club courtesy van operates Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 4pm and can be booked on 0800 CATCH ME (228 2463).
