Letter: We loved Matilda

.

Sandra James

I am a regular Beacon reader, and Wednesday, June 3, was no different. As I get to the Letters to the Editor, I usually browse the names of the writers then decide if they are worthy of a read.

Suzanne Williams caught my eye “Standing ovations and lost manners at the theatre”.

I scanned down and saw the word “Matilda” and wondered how this could be a negative letter towards Matilda.

My husband and I decided last minute to go, last Wednesday, neither of us knowing the story at all. Well, we loved it.

All the actors, including the children, were great. Suzanne, unfortunately, could not pick an outstanding child. That was because they were all outstanding (we didn’t have any family in the cast), and they were putting their heart and soul into it.

As to not hearing well, a lot of people have that problem, including my husband and he thoroughly enjoyed it and we were in the back row. He may have missed bits but didn’t complain.

I suspect the standing ovations were a show of appreciation to a family member or friend. Good on them.

We clapped our way through; all part of the atmosphere, which makes the actors feel good.

We should be supportive of the people who take time out from their busy lives to produce a great production for what is a relatively small community.
