"We are about to go live from Ōpōtiki for the official mihi whakatau (Welcome Ceremony). This is a special moment as we gather together in unity, honour the people of the land, and prepare our hearts for what Yahweh is about to do throughout this revival gathering.”
Those words marked the beginning of a weekend-long Tent Revival event, pictured, held at the Ōpōtiki Primary School grounds, where worshippers from around New Zealand gathered under a large marquee for prayer, worship and Christian teaching.
Hosted by Opotiki Harvest Church, the revival featured a series of services across Friday and Saturday, drawing visitors from within and outside the district.
A key attraction was Australian preacher and evangelist Katarena Savage, who travelled from Australia to lead the revival meetings. Known for her passionate preaching style and large revival gatherings, Savage has built a significant following through ministry events and online broadcasts across Australia and New Zealand.
Throughout the event, attendees participated in worship sessions featuring live music, prayer and messages centred on faith, hope and spiritual renewal.
The revival theme focused on encouraging people to strengthen their relationship with God while fostering unity among churches and communities.
Organisers promoted the gathering as an opportunity for people to experience worship in a welcoming environment, regardless of their church background.
Attendance was free, and those planning to attend were encouraged to register online before the event, helping organisers cater for visitors travelling from throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Multiple sessions were held over the two-day programme, allowing people to attend individual services or participate in the full revival experience.
