Letter: Get registered as a donor

.

John Capener

Thirty-eight odd years is a long time to hold a grudge A Fletcher (Beacon, June 17). I’m pretty sure that back then the PPTA would have been a very different organisation than today, just like the Employers and Federated Farmers who, surprise, surprise, are aligned with National, despite whether you trust those three or not.

However, on a more positive note, I would like to offer a big shout out to the Whakatāne High School pupil who organised that blood donor event and offer a plea to those young people and anyone else reading this, do not make that a one-off event.

Get registered as a donor, you will then be able to download their app, thus being told when they are collecting in our area and, as a bonus, be able to book a time that suits yourself.

Trust me, this is a good way to do something positive for the community.

As for myself, I was a donor up until I was in my 70s, for the simple reason one of the questions you get asked a couple of times during the process is “Since your last visit, have you visited or used the services of a sex worker or prostitute?”

Can you imagine how flattering that question is to a man my age?
