A NPD self-service fuel station is under construction at the Hub for opening in September.
The site will operate as a 24/7 self-serve station offering a range of fuel options and electric vehicle charging facilities, with no retail store attached.
NPD said the station would feature eight refuelling positions under a full canopy, allowing customers to access fuel at any time of the day or night.
It would stock diesel, 91, 95 and NPD 100-plus high-octane petrol.
NPD 100-plus is a new fuel option for the Eastern Bay, designed to cater to a range of vehicles.
In addition to fuel services, the site will include six electric vehicle charging spaces equipped with fast chargers.
NPD said it hoped the EV charging facilities would open at the same time as the fuel station, although they might become operational slightly later.
An NPD spokesperson said the company wanted to help reduce costs for drivers.
“Our focus is on delivering great value to the local community through competitive everyday pricing and regular discount promotions, helping motorists save on fuel costs,” the spokesperson said.
NPD said it was always looking for opportunities to expand into communities where it could provide motorists with greater choice and competitive fuel pricing.
“Whakatāne is a great fit for our network, and we’re excited to become part of the local community.”
Construction on the site is under way but no official opening date has been confirmed.
NPD said the target was for the station to open towards the end of September, but timelines might change.
