On Saturday, six members of Tāneatua Lions visited Nukuhou Saltmarsh in Cheddar Valley with their tools ready to replace weathered and degraded signage.
The signs along the Cheddar Valley Walking Track had served many years, informing track users of the names and interesting facts about the vegetation and birdlife they were passing.
Time and weather had degraded many of these interpretive signs, to the point of illegibility.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff were able to locate the original sign files and have a new set printed.
With 24 sign posts to repair and receive the new notices, it was no small job, but the Lions stepped in, generously offering to help with their replacement.
The Tāneatua Lions members and two saltmarsh care group members made quick work of glueing, screwing and nailing.
Ninety minutes later the job was done and all were enjoying a cuppa and pikelets, and cleaning glue off their fingers.
