September 19 is Suffrage Day – a day to commemorate the milestone of women gaining the right to vote in New Zealand in 1893 and acknowledge the contributions of women who have fought to advance women’s rights and the betterment of our society.
The Zonta Club of Whakatāne is celebrating Suffrage Day on Sunday, September 20 at the Kate Sheppard Camellia Grove in Sullivan Lake Reserve, Douglas Street entrance.
We will be planting another white camellia and hold a picnic from 11:30am. Join us for the picnic (bring your own food).
We will think of women in the world who do not have the right to vote, like the women of Afghanistan.
Women, Kate wants you to use your right to vote.
Please vote in the Bay of Plenty Regional Council by-election and in the General Election before or on November 7 and help make this a better world for women and girls.
