Thank you to Tim Senior for his erudite opinion piece, Rethinking tax – a call for fairness in NZ’s tax system, Ōpōtiki News September 17 .

I have been astonished by the simplistic assumption by the National Party that all new taxes are bad.

Where do they think we will get money for better hospitals and infrastructure?

Let’s not raise taxes on wages but look to other avenues such as taxing those 311 ultra rich who pay an average of 9 percent a year.

And then there’s the landlords who vastly increase their wealth by owning many houses.

I gather many politicians of the current coalition have bought more houses since they reduced taxes on that wealth.

Sorry National, your scare tactics don’t work with me.
