A ceremony will be held in Kawerau on October 5 for the unveiling of a sign for the Malcolm Campbell Lifestyle Village.

A decision was made to change the name of the Kawerau District Council-owned facility at a council meeting in July.

The building of the former named Porritt Glade Lifestyle Village was a project Campbell strongly supported during his time as mayor.

The former Kawerau mayor and Bay of Plenty regional councillor died on May 21, at the age of 73, after a short illness.

He served as the mayor of Kawerau for seven terms from 2001 to 2022, placing him among the longest-serving mayors in New Zealand.

Mayor Faylene Tunui and the Campbell family welcome anyone who wishes to attend at 10.30am at the entrance to the village. This will be followed with refreshments at the Bert Hamilton Hall.
