Tiger Trout Tournament draws 76 competitors

The Lake Rotoma Tiger Trout Tournament was held on September 26 and 27, with 76 competitors taking part.

Lyall Marshall of Rotoma won the Tiger Trout division with a 1.825-kilogram fish, followed by Lindsay Hunt of Whakatāne in second with 1.75kg and Frank Garguilo of Auckland in third with 1.495kg.

The Rainbow Trout division was won by Mark Armistead of Tauranga with a 3.195kg fish. Rod Steven was second with 2.445kg, followed by Darrell Civil of Rotorua in third with 2.255kg.

The Junior division, for anglers under 17, was won by Jordi Gledhill of Lake Rotoma with a 2.64kg rainbow trout. Ryan Marshall of Morrinsville was second with 2.24kg, followed by Jack Dickson of Kawerau with 2.215kg.

The Small Fry division, for children aged under seven, was won by Hunter Cook of Kawerau with a 2.18kg fish. Owen Henton of Ōhope was second with 2.165kg and Liam Shaw of Lake Rotoma was third with 1.87kg.

The Best Condition Fish award went to Nigel Shaw of Lake Rotoma for a 46.55cm rainbow hen.

Prizegiving was held at Lake Rotoma School on the Sunday afternoon, with organisers describing the weekend as having a great atmosphere and strong community support. The event is presented by the Lake Rotoma-Rotoehu Community Association and serves as a fundraiser for the community.
