Areas of State Highway 30 west of Awakeri are being chipsealed until Thursday, between 8am and 5pm.

The work sites are between Maunder Road and Western Drain Road.

SH30 will be closed to eastbound traffic during the work, with all eastbound traffic detoured via SH34 Otakiri and SH2 Edgecumbe. Westbound traffic can continue through the worksite under stop/go traffic management and a reduced speed limit.

Meanwhile, work has begun on rebuilding the road in the Waimana Gorge, south of Tāneatua.

The work is expected to take 10 weeks to complete and will see SH2 through the gorge with a reduced speed limit and stop-go traffic management in place during the day.

Delays are expected.
