Ōhope Beach Golf Links general manager Ryan Walker is hoping to make it a hattrick of Ōhope 10,000 titles when the event kicks off this weekend.

After winning the past two years, Walker is aiming to grab his third title amidst what looks to be an exciting and tough field.

As expected, the course is in fabulous condition and it will take two impressive rounds to win the tournament, which has been going well over 30 years.

The field will include 120 golfers from across the North Island.

“It's a very strong field. There will be plenty of people hoping they can stop me from winning,” Walker said.

One of those is Matt Purdy, also a multiple winner of the event previously. The Eastern Bay golfer will be hoping to hit top form and halt Walker's recent stranglehold on the trophy.

This long-standing tournament includes top golfers Michael Trass (Hastings), Ben Jujnovich (Redwood Park) and young gun Kevin Bang (Futures Geyserland).

“The Ōhope Beach Golf Links café is back in action. Salt and Green will be open to the public from 9am on Saturday and Sunday, and the Dream Bean Coffee Cart will be serving up delicious coffee, so anyone is welcome to come down to the club and enjoy all that’s on offer,” Walker said.

He is grateful to everyone who makes the event possible including the volunteers, sponsors but hard-working greenkeepers.

“This weekend would not be able to happen with the generous support of our sponsors Mitre10, Nicholson Autos, Golf360, Craigs Investment Partners, HelloWorld, Dawson Insurance Brokers, Glenns Glass and Husqvarna Chainsaws and Mowers who have contributed to a very generous prize table.”
