Melbourne Cup bridge day to raise funds for SPCA

.

The Whakatāne Bridge Club is holding a Melbourne Cup-themed bridge day on Tuesday, November 3, to raise money for the SPCA.

The event is open to anyone who can play bridge, including non-members.

“It’s open to bridge players and it’s our major fundraiser for the SPCA,” organiser Caroline Sarfati said.

There will be prizes for the best-dressed woman and man, as well as the best hat.

A raffle and other prizes will also be part of the day.

The event is held annually, with the club hoping to raise money for the charity again this year.

“It’s a very good cause,” Sarfati said.

Entry costs $15 per player, with $10 going to the SPCA and $5 covering the cost of playing. There will also be a donation box for anyone who wants to contribute more.

Players should arrive by 12.15pm and bring their own lunch to enjoy with friends before playing bridge from 1pm to 4pm.

Players will need a bridge partner, but those who do not have one can contact club member Diane Green on 021 119 1212, who may be able to help them find someone to play with.

After the bridge games, players

will have the chance to take part in the raffle and prizegiving before gathering to watch the Melbourne Cup at 5pm.
