Opōtiki College Cadet Unit members have been putting their first aid skills to the test during a themed training camp in the lower Kaimai Ranges near Tauranga over the weekend.
Exercise MASH brought together several Northern Area Cadet Units for a camp designed to make first aid training both practical and engaging.
Cadets took part in a range of hands-on activities, including primary assessments using DRSABCDE, secondary assessments using SMART, wound bandaging and responding to general medical situations.
The Opōtiki Unit was among 10 participating units, joining cadets from across the region for the exercise.
Captain Lorraine Lawson-Barrett said it was rewarding to see cadets putting their training into practice.
“It’s amazing to see the lessons coached being put into practical use with the scenarios aligned, and watching cadets step up and take vital positions in an accident or incident.”
Exercise MASH continues to provide cadets with valuable opportunities to develop their first aid skills, confidence and leadership through practical scenarios.
